Russia Ditches The ICC While Turkish Teachers Get Expelled

PNUT GALLERY

Today, we’re launching Blanched Nuts, our Pnut guide to the surge in ultra-conservative parties sweeping the international stage.

Our first article in this multi-part series takes a look at Junge Alternative, the millennials who are trying to make German nationalism look cool.

 Syria Loses Another Children’s Hospital

At least 32 people – including children – were killed during the Syrian government’s most recent airstrike on rebel-held eastern Aleppo. The Bayan Children’s Hospital, as well as a blood bank and multiple ambulances, were either damaged or destroyed. It had only been one day since the three-week moratorium was declared over. President Bashar al-Assad’s forces began air strikes almost immediately, firing missiles from jets and dropping barrel bombs from helicopters, according to the monitoring group Syrian Observatory.

Russia The Latest Country To Ditch The ICC

Following in the footsteps of Gambia, South Africa and Burundi, Russia now wants to pull out of the International Criminal Court because the court published an unflattering report about the country. President Vladimir Putin issued a decree for Russia to withdraw from the statute of the ICC, just one day after the court classified Russia’s annexation of Crimea as an occupation. Although the withdrawal is mostly a symbolic gesture, it reflects just how unwilling Putin is to cooperate with anyone besides Donald Trump.

Officer Charged In Death Of Philando Castile

Jeronimo Yanez, the police officer who shot and killed Philando Castile outside of Minneapolis this summer, will be charged with second-degree manslaughter. John Choi, the local prosecutor, made the decision to charge Yanez himself rather than in conjunction with a grand jury. Castile’s girlfriend was with Castile when he was killed and streamed the aftermath on Facebook Live. There have been 836 people killed by police in America in 2016, but according to an analysis by the Minnesota Star Tribune, this is the first time on record that a police officer has been charged in connection with a police-involved death in Minnesota.

Pakistan Expels Over 100 Teachers So Turkey Can Put Them In Time-Out

At the Turkish government’s request, Pakistan ordered more than 100 Turkish teachers and their families to leave the country by the end of the week. The teachers work at a chain of international schools throughout Pakistan, and the Turkish government believes they were somehow linked to the US-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen and the failed coup attempt. The schools deny this claim. A petition by school management is circulating PakTurk International Schools and Colleges, but it looks like the teachers and their families – over 450 people in total – will be denied visa extensions. Turkish President Erdogan called Pakistan’s decision, “very pleasing,” and probably said it while he sat on a thrown petting a hairless cat.

China Confirms That They Did Not Invent Climate Change

Despite what President-elect Donald Trump believes, climate change is not a Chinese conspiracy. Trump claimed China created climate change and that idea became pervasive enough the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin had to deny it publicly on Wednesday. At a United Nations press conference in Morocco, Zhenmin had to give a climate change history lesson, reminding people that it was Republican President Ronald Reagan who began international climate talks in the 1980s. With that behind us, we can get back to saving the polar bears.

KEEPING OUR EYE ON

Bob Dylan: The rockstar/poet told the Swedish Academy that he will not be attending the ceremony to receive his Nobel Prize. Turns out, he already made plans that night.

France: Former economy minister Emmanuel Macron announced his plans to run for President of France. Macron will be running as an Independent in next year’s election and will likely take a few votes from mainstream candidates, but theorists are still predicting a strong turnout for far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

David Cameron Is Charging £120,000 Per Hour For Speeches On Brexit

Great news, folks. For just £120,000 an hour, the former UK Prime Minister will give you the inside scoop on what went wrong in the Brexit referendum. And he should know: it’s why he had to resign in the first place. Former PM David Cameron stood down from the role after losing the EU referendum in June and later resigned as MP for Witney in September. Talking about the good years at dinner parties and executive meetings is now his side hustle. Hopefully his new discussions on Brexit are a little more effective than when he was begging voters to remain with the EU.

Yes, I want to sound marginally more intelligent:
