You Can Now Get A PhD in Drake

There are plenty of Drake fans out there, but Canadian student Amara Pope wanted to take it to the next level: she is making Drake the subject of her master’s thesis and her PhD. In an interview with CBC K-W’s The Morning Edition host Craig Norris, Pope explained that Drake has “a very unique position in the music industry, being biracial, being from both Canada and the United States,” and presents an opportunity to draw “on narratives from being from a lower class, rising to a high class society.” Her master’s thesis is called  “Musical Artists Capitalizing on Hybrid Identities: A Case Study of Drake the “Authentic” “Black” “Canadian” “Rapper” and was published in the academic journal Stream: Inspiring Critical Thought.
